Infinio founder Vishal Misra moves to Chief Scientist role
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 3, 2014 – Infinio, the price/performance leader in storage acceleration for virtualized data centers, announced today that Scott Davis, former CTO of VMware’s storage and end-user computing divisions, has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer. At the same time, company founder Vishal Misra moves to the newly created role of Chief Scientist. Misra is also a professor in the Computer Science department at Columbia University.
“I am pleased to be joining such an innovative team and company. Infinio’s distributed, content-based architecture is a real game-changer,” Davis said. “This unique approach enables a transparent, non-disruptive platform to solve many problems for the IT administrator. Today, Infinio is focused on a radically efficient server-side storage cache that is optimized for RAM, but there are many other potential applications. I’m excited to be part of defining the vision and moving it forward.”
“Today, Infinio is focused on storage acceleration for VMware, and virtual desktop deployments are a key growth market,” said Infinio Co-founder and CEO Arun Agarwal. “As such, there simply isn’t a more ideal CTO than Scott to complement our already seasoned executive team. He will leverage deep domain knowledge and unique technical acumen to take our initial market success, fueled by Vishal’s work dating all the way back to Columbia, into a highly scalable, market-leading platform.”
“I’m delighted to welcome Scott to the team,” added Misra. “Attracting someone of this caliber to our early-stage company is a strong validation of the vision we had back in 2011. Every year since our founding, the company grows stronger and the product matures. Scott will help us continue and accelerate this momentum.”
Davis joins Infinio after seven years at VMware, where he was recently Chief Technology Officer for VMware’s End User Computing Business Unit, and helped drive product and technology strategy while significantly contributing to 10x EUC revenue growth over a four-year period. He earlier served as VMware's Chief Data Center and Storage Architect in the Corporate CTO Office. Before joining VMware, he was President, CTO, and Founder of Virtual Iron Software, which was acquired by Oracle and became the core of OracleVM. Scott holds 15 US patents for clustering, storage, and virtualization technologies, and his products have won awards at Comdex, Demo and LinuxWorld.
